RÉSUMÉ. 

— La lettre inédite adressée le 11 janvier 1902 par Pierre Curie à Pierre Duhem révèle, à propos d'un problème scientifique ponctuel, la magnétostatique, plus que l'opposition de deux hommes, celle de deux méthodes d'approche de la réalité scientifique : l'une, héritière de la tradition expérimentale et rationaliste de la science française, l'autre, attachée à soumettre la réalité aux grands principes de la thermodynamique générale (ou énergétique).

SUMMARY. 

— The unpublished letter of 11 January 1902 from Pierre Curie to Pierre Duhem reveals, on the subject of a specific scientific problem, magneto-statics, more than the opposition between two men, that between two approaches to scientific reality : the one heir to the experimental and rationalist tradition of French science, the other more intent on submitting reality to the great principles of general thermodynamics (or energetics).
