Abstract
The present status of the theory of itinerant electron magnetism is outlined with particular emphasis on the developments in the recent two decades, characterized by the substantial advances in the theory of spin fluctuations. The possible applicability of the itinerant electron model to the high temperature superconductor oxides and the possible importance of the effects of antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations are also discussed.
